this moment

Your friends will be awestruck
The marvels of what you have created will be on display
The looking is what is worth paying for
Your suburban life is about to get interesting

All those nights of sobering, television induced thought
Will most likely be forgotten anyway

You don't need a degree to make it here
Just a story and the bravado to tell it
Doesn't have to be the truth
It just has to be moderately interesting

Everyone thinks everyone else is an asshole or an idiot
I don't know why, it is just the way we are programmed
For some reason, we are able to manage
a billion cars on a million freeways every day
With barely a mishap

We all know our way to work
And sometimes, on our day off
We end up at work without a thought
Before we realise we have autopilot engaged
We feel silly, don't we?

And every once in a while, we wanna strike out
At the World but really at ourselves
For all the dumb shit that we've done
And all the bad decisions that we've made
That have led us to this moment
This moment, which is really not that bad, after all

happy birthday Bubby

You were late, we wondered when you were coming
Now you are waving
It has been one year
and the dread is greater than ever
about all the shit that is going on
but more about the kind of parent I needed to be
The worthy and all around good guy that I want to be

You know just the other day, some men went and shot some cartoonists with machine guns
In the end, the lives you take are equal to the lives you make
The Book of this or the Book of that
And where are all these new souls coming from
Are they waiting in some sort of a cue?

Here you are, one year out
I'm sorry for this world that I have been too lazy to help fix
I mean, I did something but not much
Mostly I just get outraged and yell at the TV
I imagine that scene plays out in a billion living rooms every day
And now, with social media
you can take in 4 times the amount of information
and still not know what the fuck is going on
Love is all we are looking for
That and a fast car and holidays on air miles
Live without fear, live without all the other traps you keep falling into

Do you know how much I love you?
You never could I could never put it into words
like a lot of things on this earth
its just a feeling
I can't explain
You will understand when you are older
Life and death are real
More real than almost anything
do not fear either

A life never lived they always said
but as you stood on the deck of the boat
and your hair blew in the wind
you knew you were in the right spot
failure is a different thing in the eyes of different people
all of us are judges in our own courts
You didn't care then and you don't now
that's for sure
But speak with candor when you tell them
you belong here
this is your home
The kid's kids are here for fuck sake
they wish you stayed longer
I'll say this...

So long
and thanks for all the fish.

proletariat

Don't waste your time on that shit they said
i remember how quickly it all changed
once the story became known
even in circles where things were not generally known
you understand
all the bullshit you could see for miles
and all the plastic and all the tales of failure
wouldn't stop them from burning every bridge that they cross
in my experience it is the leaders who are lost
telling us how it is or what time
even covers of magazines and newspapers
tell lies
we all know it and those who don't are hard to believe
saying if you don't love it you can leave
what a shit story and i aint sorry for saying such things
so close to a statutory holiday
We are working the line doing our time
and we are doing alright
